As we document our plant collection, we are working on a Plant Profile for each plant.
The profile is a detailed guide to plant characteristics, common concerns and pests taken from our knowledge of the plant having grown it in our collection for some time. We also include photographs at various stages of growth and particular comment for humid tropical climates with wet and dry seasons.
We refer to various different books and websites to learn more about our collection of plants on a daily basis. Particularly useful websites are shared within each profile and you can find a list of all of our books and useful links on our Books & Resources page.
Plant Profiles are detailed and take time to get right. We also want to make sure that we have accurate information and include as many photos as possible. So please be patient as we create in our spare time.
While we really like plants, we don't want to reinvent the wheel and write just another plant care blurb. We like knowing the facts and value the intricacies of plant taxonomy. We like to see what we're talking about and learn new things, and we hope you do too.
Each Plant Profile includes information such as:
Common name: Name/s used locally that often vary by region or country.
Scientific names: Unique names and classification determined by the scientific community to accurately and universally identify species.
Identifying Features: Including the leaf and growth habit of the species. Unique or distinguishing features are noted for easier identification.
Natural Habitat: Includes origin and environment. These details help to identify the ideal growing conditions that we can then attempt to replicate at home in order for the plant to thrive indoors.
Images: Each Plant Profile includes images of the species at various stages of growth and showing different identifying features. These photos help you to identify your plants at home.
Any useful websites or books relating to each species are also included in each profile so you can continue to learn any aspects of particular interest to you.
